About us

Welcome to Nature Matters, A small but growing business rooted in land, learning, and community. We believe meaningful change begins with understanding the needs of people, places, and ecosystems.

Our Story

Nature Matters began with Josh’s ambition of delivering long-lasting and adaptive ecological work that centred around community. He set out to create something he couldn’t quite find:

“I don’t just want to do a job for someone; it’s not only about having a positive impact on our environment, it’s about the people too”

What started with a few freelance projects and training sessions has grown into a practice supporting landowners, councils, and community groups. Our name reflects what we stand for: that nature matters – and that includes us.

Our Vision

“We’re here to empower people to work with the land, not against it.”

We envision a future where knowledge is accessible and meaningful; where local communities are equipped with the skills and confidence to protect biodiversity, manage land sustainably, and reconnect with the natural world.

We see the lichen as a quiet symbol of resilience and interdependence. It’s not one organism, but a symbiotic partnership. We chose it as our logo because it reflects the principles that guide our work: collaboration, adaptability, and the strength found in relationship.

Josh Rogers

Founder & Lead Trainer

Josh is the founder of Nature Matters, working at the intersection of environmental education, ecological consultancy, and community engagement. His approach brings together scientific knowledge, practical skills, and participatory methods to support sustainable land management and meaningful environmental learning.

With academic interests in systems thinking, environmental governance, ecological restoration, and community-led sustainability, Josh explores how co-production and traditional ecological knowledge can contribute to just transitions and biodiversity recovery.

He delivers bespoke training in land management, alongside consultancy and contracting work for NGOs, local councils, and community organisations.

Josh is committed to making science accessible, whether in the field, the classroom, or within local communities.
